Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands off the northwest coast of Malaysia โ duty-free, strikingly beautiful and one of the country's most popular holiday destinations. The main island (Langkawi proper) is 478 sq km of rainforest, mangroves, rice paddies and beaches. A hire car is essential for reaching the quieter beaches, the UNESCO Geopark sites and the cable car that climbs to the SkiBridge above the jungle canopy.
